re: "I must not publish the whole of this" - I was reading the footnotes for that letter and I feel like "Remainder of this letter, except for postscript, is omitted in JCHW, but is printed in full in HCLW." should be appreciated more. This footnote comes right before the part where Hamilton mentions Laurens' wife, so basically John Church straight up "deleted" the "friendly reminder that I have a big dick" part of the letter when he published it. He knew exactly what was going on there.

Ooh, I actually didn’t know that part.  That is so great.  So so great.  I mean censorship of their letters sucks but this is just further proof of the Hamilton/Laurens relationship.

I just want to know what John Church Hamilton’s thoughts were when he was going through his dad’s letters to write his bio. Like, he obviously thought John Laurens was a man worth admiring , seeing as how he lobbied Congress to secure funds for his grandson, and named one of his own sons Laurens Hamilton.

Like can you just imagine John just reading through the correspondence being like:

“God this bromance was awesome. Yeah Dad, you and Laurens go fight that revolution, become the knights of the republic. Damn this is amazi - OKAY DAD that’s a little much gonna have to cut that for mom’s sake.”
