im still so baffled by hamilton’s decision to publish the reynolds pamphlet. like. what happened was jefferson n co. went “ok we won’t tell anyone” and then hamilton’s reaction to that was “ok so the problem is PROBABLY solved but just to be sure im going to make this a thousand percent worse”. like. i completely understand because that is also my general response to any and all minor inconveniences but im just a useless university student and this guy literally founded a country so you’d expect him to handle problems better than this.

what i got from this was that, like, jefferson and madison were like “yeah obvs we’ll keep it a secret” and burr was like “idk ;))) maybe~~ ;))))) rumors fly~~ who knows where they come from~~~~~ ;) ;) ;)))” so hamilton thought burr would leak it to take him down politically and decided it was better to just publish it so he could at least manage the story himself. i have no idea how that tracks historically, like, if burr actually would have leaked it, but it would be in character for hamilton musical burr (”burr, is there anything you won’t do?” “no, i’m chasing what i want”)
oh yeah i mean i got that from the song but tbh i just want to make fun of alexander :~)
